The earliest sarees were very different from the modern versions we see today.

Women often wore a long piece of cloth wrapped around the waist and draped across the upper body. In many regions, blouses and petticoats were not used. Instead, the fabric itself was arranged in various styles to provide comfort and modesty.

Ancient sculptures from temples and historical sites depict women wearing draped garments with graceful pleats and flowing silhouettes, showing that the saree was already considered both practical and beautiful
