The fabric is a rich, heavy tussar / raw silk in a deep chocolate brown / burnt sienna tone with the characteristic nubby, textured weave of the tussar tradition — and across every inch of this magnificent ground, a breathtaking large-scale Kalamkari / Srikalahasti-style hand-painted digital print unfolds in the bold, graphic, resist-outlined style of the ancient tradition.

The body is a spectacular all-over scrolling vine composition — a continuous, flowing vine of large teardrop / paisley leaves rendered in terracotta orange, teal / peacock blue, cobalt blue, and olive green, each leaf outlined in fine ivory resist lines in the characteristic Kalamkari style, the vine scrolling and branching across the entire chocolate brown ground in a composition of extraordinary organic energy. Nestled within the vine are large five-petal floral rosettes — bold, graphic flowers in deep orange-red and cobalt blue with characteristic spiral / snail-shell centre fills outlined in ivory resist lines. The centrepiece of the body composition is a dramatic large Matsya / sacred fish motif — the divine fish of Lord Vishnu, the first avatar of the Dashavatara — rendered in golden amber / mustard yellow with cobalt blue scale fills in a fine diamond / net pattern and delicate ivory line detail on the fins and tail.

The border is a wide, bold golden amber / mustard yellow band filled with a spectacular Kalamkari fish procession — rows of large fish in terracotta red and slate blue / navy swimming in wavy golden amber water bands with fine ivory wave lines, all rendered in the bold Kalamkari style with characteristic resist-outlined scales and fins. The border runs the full length of the saree on both sides, framing the chocolate brown body with the warm, sacred gold of the Kalamkari tradition.
